Richard Mille is about tonneau case shape, layered construction, skeleton movement views, rubber strap fit, and strong color identity. The watch should feel technical and light on the wrist, not simply large.
The tonneau case, curved crystal, visible screws, open-worked dial and fitted rubber strap form one object. That is why an RM cannot be judged from a straight-on dial photo alone. The crown side, the case flanks and the point where the strap enters the case matter just as much as the bridge colours inside the crystal.
RM 67-02 is the sport-led route, usually built around a lighter-looking skeleton presentation and a strap whose color changes the entire mood. RM 011-style chronographs carry more dial activity. RM 61-01, RM 66, RM 47 and RM 68-01 move toward more dramatic bridge layouts and collector-oriented graphics.
Color is not a small variation on this page
A red-strap RM 67-02, a green or blue version, and a black-strapped carbon-looking model do not have the same visual purpose. The case family may overlap, but strap color, bridge contrast and dial depth decide what the watch feels like on the wrist. Pick the version whose color plan still makes sense once the initial novelty wears off.
Tourbillon-style and heavily openworked references should be considered separately from simpler sport pieces. The buyer is choosing a movement view as part of the face, so hand legibility and the balance area become part of the purchase.
QC should establish depth, not just detail
Ask for a direct movement view, both case flanks, the crown side and the deployant closed on the strap. Check screw seating, crystal edge, bridge spacing and the clearance between hands and the structure behind them. The strap should follow the case curve rather than appear to have been attached after the design was finished.
Richard Mille can be visually loud without looking careless. The right reference still has a coherent line from case to strap.
